Our journey begins with a 3 ½ hour drive from the hectic capital of Hanoi to beautiful Halong Bay. On route we stop on the way to view people working on rice paddies and at the Hong Ngoc Humanity Center, developed to provide support to communities in the area including people's with disabilities.
11: 30 am
On arrival in Halong City we board our private boat for a cruise in Halong bay, famous for its limestone karsts jutting out of the sea creating a spectacular vista. A UNESCO listed World Heritage site, Halong Bay means "Bay of the Descending Dragon" and legend has it that a long time ago when the Vietnamese were fighting off foreign invaders, the gods sent a family of dragons to assist in the fight. During the battle the dragons spat out jewels that would later become the islands that now are scattered around the bay.
Our cruise takes us to visit Thien Cung or Heaven Palace Cave with various interesting stalagmite and stalactite formation. Back to the boat, it is time for us to enjoy a delicious seafood lunch while the boat is cruising deeper into the bay surrounded by numerous islands and islets - some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth.
16: 00 pm
We make our way back to Hanoi in the afternoon. If time permits, you will have chance to stop to visit Dong Trieu Ceramic Village, where you can view the skilled artisans making incredibly detailed ceramics.
