Ionah

Star Galaxy Theater and Convention
87 Lang Ha, Hanoi
Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 8 p.m

Ionah is the name of the current production running at the spectacular Star Galaxy Theater just 5km from the city centre of Hanoi. The 300 seat theatre is a superb semicircular venue, presenting the entire audience with “ringside” seats. It benefits from multi-layered projection, a world class lighting rig and a superb surround sound P.A. system.

Ionah is a mixture of dance, theatre, circus and music, that tells the story of a young girl’s journey inside her soul to face the struggle between good and evil. Lost in this illusion, she is blinded by anger, but battles to find her escape from the feelings that rage within her, so she can return to the reality of her life. It is set “somewhere in Hanoi”. Beginning with iconic scenes of the Vietnamese capital the stage soon transforms into a magical and mysterious world.

The 75 minute show features some of the best acrobats and circus performers from Vietnam, accompanied by a blend of Western electronic and Vietnamese traditional music and using excellent theatrical effects. It has been likened to the world famous Cirque Du Soleil.

The show really is a stunning visual and audial experience, and has kept audiences enthralled, resulting in great reviews. The costumiers have worked magic and the performers really do show off the fascinating costumes to their best. The artists themselves have been chosen from the very best at the Vietnam Circus Federation and the Vietnam Dance College.

Ionah will appeal to audiences of all ages, as no understanding of the Vietnamese language is required. The artistry of the dancers coupled with the professionalism of the production crew presents a wonderful hour and a quarter’s entertainment. Some of the luminous costume work is utterly captivating.

Don’t miss this wonderful show.

Local Insight: There is free shuttle bus service on show days, from Hoan Kiem Lake to Star Galaxy Theatre. The bus leaves at 7:15 p.m. from 3B Le Thai To street, and returns at 9:30 p.m. from Star Galaxy Theater. Usually it takes about 15 minutes to arrive.
