Mail

The postal system in Hanoi and much of Vietnam is fairly reliable. Don't seal your parcels before taking them to the post office, or Buu Dien as it's called, as you will be required to show the contents before your package is weighed and priced. Throughout Hanoi there are small, kiosk-type outlets that offer basic postal services. For anything more complicated head to the main domestic and international post office housed in a beautiful colonial villa on Dinh Tien Hoang. Hours are from 7am until 9:30pm.
Registered, express mail service is available for time-sensitive packages. Postcards cost around VND10,000 to send overseas, good to know when you need to fire off that bizarre piece of propaganda postcard art. Note that you may have to wade through a slow inspection process before you can claim any packages that were sent to you from overseas. There are a few private, international-standard courier companies in Hanoi that can handle delivery of your time-sensitive documents or small parcels.
