Vietnam Visas

A Vietnamese entry visa is required for all foreigners wishing to visit the country. The only exception is if your country has a bilateral consular agreement for visa exemptions. You can check on your government’s website to find if yours is one of the few that apply for this program.

Visas on arrival are available through various travel agencies who, for a fee, will fill out the appropriate paperwork for a visa approval letter. Not really a “visa on arrival” but it makes it easier than having to deal with sending your passport off to the Vietnamese Consulate Office or Embassy in your country. However, this is only accessible for those flying into the country so if you are entering through a land border, you will have to apply for one in your home country or one of the countries bordering Vietnam.

Fees

Tourist and business visas are valid from 30 days and all the way up to 12 months.

- One-month single entry US$25
- Three month single entry US$35
- Three month multiple entry US$50
- One year multiple entry - US$135

The visa-free travel policy will be applicable to German, French, British, Italian, and Spanish visitors, with an allowed 15-day stay for each entry between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2016.

Vietnam also applies a one-sided free-visa policy to eight countries, including Japan, South Korea, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, and Belarus along with nine other Southeast Asian countries.

Foreign tourists who visit Phu Quoc Island, off the southern province of Kien Giang, will not need to apply for a visa if they stay there for 30 days at most.

Extensions

Visa extensions are available for a fee of US$50-220 and visas can be extended for a maximum of 90 days. Most travel agencies offer this service for a fee and can take up to 10 days to process. Applications for visa extensions are also available at the Immigration offices in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City but require a bit of patience. Speaking Vietnamese is a plus.
