As the old saying goes, sometimes the destination is the journey itself. It's hard to argue with that wisdom when travelling from Danang to Hue, a scenic stretch of highway along the coast.
Out of the city, you can cut straight through the range with the Hai Van tunnel, but we recommend going the scenic route and taking Hai Van Pass over the top. While the road can be treacherous, the reward of commanding views on either side outweighs the risk.
At the top, remnants of bunkers from the American War loom as reminders of the region's violent past. If you're looking for a trinket or a refreshment, a multitude of vendors are ready and waiting. On a clear day, take in panoramas of Danang and the surrounding countryside.
Down the opposite slope lies the picturesque beach town of Lang Co.
